Another year gone. Another annual report from our friends at Strava. Time for some naval gazing!
As far as racing goes, looks like I did one 70.3 IM (Gulf Coast), 1 Olympic tri, 1 Olympic duathlon, 1 Sprint aquabike, and 4 gravel races.

2021 Active Days
In Strava, I had more “active days” logged in 2021 than 2020. Only 23 days this past year that I didn’t log some sort of activity (or multiples). No wonder I’m tired all the time! It was a big year, lots of training and lots of races, but when October rolled around I was ready for a break. Took a few weeks off from the training regimen, but even then I kept up the long dog walks and some bike riding. Didn’t want to burn out so taking a break was definitely a good thing.
Rode 3,544.5 miles on the bike(s) this year. A bit under last year, which surprises me. Can’t completely explain it, but I do know that this year much more of it was outside instead of in the basement on the trainer and that’s probably a factor some how?
Ran 390 miles this year. That is very close to last year, about 22 miles more. Pretty consistent. It would have been more, but I avoided running a few times through the year to give my old knees some recovery time….
Swimming total for the year was 90.25 miles; roughly 8 miles more than last year. Sure, there was some open water in there for training and races, but the majority of that was an endless series of 50 meter laps. oof. I am [mentally] tired just thinking about it.
A mile is just over 32 laps in a 25 meter pool.
What will next year look like? Stay tuned… I’m still planning and picking races. Coeur d’Alene Ironman 70.3 for sure. Oh, and I’m already signed up for a “redemption” run at Open Range Gravel (last year’s report). Not sure about the rest, but there will be more, I’m sure.
